Charge overdue commitment

Initiate a charge to a fundraiser's credit card to fulfill their fundraising commitment

Updated over a week ago

If fundraising commitments are in use on your event, you will have the option to charge fundraisers for the remainder of their commitment in accordance with the waiver they agreed to.

For example, if a fundraiser with a $500 commitment has raised $0, you would be able to charge their card for the full $500 remaining or any amount less than that. If a fundraiser has fundraised $400 of their $500 commitment, you would be able to charge them the $100 remaining or any amount less than that. You cannot charge a fundraiser for more than the total of their commitment.

Note: Charging overdue commitments is optional. Fundraisers are not automatically charged anything upon the deadline. You decide if and when you initiate the charge.

Steps

  1. Visit your campaign’s Dashboard.

  2. Under the Raise tab, scroll down to your Donations table and select the Commitments tab.

  3. A table showing all your fundraisers who have registered with a fundraising commitment will appear. Use the filter to adjust your view to participants that are categorized as Overdue or search for the participant whose commitment you would like to waive.

  4. Click on the participant’s name and in the pop-up that appears, select Create Charge.

  5. By default, the suggested charge is the amount the fundraiser has remaining towards their commitment. If you need to charge the fundraiser for less than their remainder, you can edit the charge amount if needed.

  6. Click Charge.

You will see a confirmation that the payment was successful. The fundraiser will receive an email receipt thanking them for their commitment payment and confirming it has been fulfilled.

Note: If you charge a fundraiser for less than the full remainder of their commitment, their status will automatically be marked as Waived (instead of Paid) as a portion of their commitment was waived rather than paid in full.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I charge someone’s card before the deadline?

It is possible to initiate a charge before the deadline, but we only recommend taking this step if you have communicated directly with the fundraiser, as doing so would go against the waiver and deadline you had them agree to. If they have requested you simply charge them to fulfill their commitment, you can do this by following the same steps above.

Some of my participants are marked as Not Accepted. Am I still able to charge them?

No. If a participant is marked as Not Accepted, it is a sign that they were registered for your event by someone else and have not taken the steps to complete their registration and claim their fundraising page. This means they did not input a credit card on file or agree to the fundraising commitment waiver. We highly recommend reaching out to these individuals well in advance of the fundraising commitment deadline to confirm their participation and ensure they follow the steps to complete their registration. You can re-send their invite email, which includes instructions and a link to complete their registration.
