When enabling activity tracking on a peer-to-peer campaign, you will have the option to indicate if you want participants to track the same activity or if you want them to be able to choose an activity from multiple activity metrics you provide.
What’s different between single metric v. multi-metric?
Single metric campaigns will display a cumulative tally of the activity total in your campaign header (showing what all participants have collectively completed) and on team pages (showing what all team members have collectively completed). They will also give you the option to display and sort activity totals on your leaderboards. Each fundraiser’s page will show the same activity metric and their individual total.
Multi-metric campaigns do not display any cumulative tally of activity totals on your campaign header or on team pages, nor do they show activity totals on your leaderboards. However, each fundraiser’s page will display the activity total for whatever metric they’ve selected, fully personalizing their experience and how donors can support them.
Regardless of the activity metric, your campaign's Community feature is still there for your participants, giving everyone an opportunity to share their updates and connect through your cause. On a multi-metric campaign, Community updates that feature activity will show that individual’s selected activity. On a single-metric campaign, all the activity updates will feature the same type of activity. Both options allow participants to celebrate each other’s success!
Choosing the best option for your campaign
The majority of campaigns use a single-metric because it creates a shared mission – everyone is taking the same challenge and working towards the same goal. Seeing the activity totals on the Leaderboard also creates a friendly sense of competition that can increase engagement in the campaign.
Even though multi-metric campaigns lack some of the activity tally displays, they can also be an excellent driver of community because they allow you to provide more options that may increase the inclusivity of your campaign, attracting participants who might not have otherwise joined if a particular metric did not apply to them. Individuals can have a personalized experience while still fundraising alongside others and celebrating the work everyone is putting into the campaign.
Every peer-to-peer fundraising campaign is unique and it’s up to you to consider if you’d like to bring activity tracking into the mix. If you have questions about your specific campaign and how to decide between single-metric or multi-metric activity tracking, feel free to contact your Customer Success representative to talk about your strategy.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I tell what activity each participant is doing on a multi-metric campaign?
Your Participants report that you can download will include a column for activity, letting you see what metric was selected. This can be helpful on a multi-metric campaign where you want to report back to fundraisers about the campaign’s collective totals.
If I have a multi-metric campaign with three options to choose from, does that mean the participant can post three types of activity during my campaign?
No. If you have three activity metrics to choose from, participants would select one metric to use during the duration of your campaign to shape their fundraising experience.
If someone chooses one of my multi-metric options but then changes their mind, can they pick a different option?
Yes. Participants can update their activity metric preference after registration when editing their fundraising page. Any pledges they received per their previous activity would now apply to their new activity choice and the activity label on their page would instantly update.
