Create and manage promotional codes, which alter the price of tickets during registration checkout

Updated over a week ago

If your campaign has paid tickets enabled, but you want to offer discounted or free registration to a select audience, you can create discount codes that can be applied at checkout. Discount codes can be customized to be a certain percentage off (i.e. 50% off) or a flat amount (i.e. $10 off).

Note: If you are using our Sponsors feature to sell sponsorship packages that include tickets, your sponsors will receive an invite code that their attendees can use to register for free. Discount codes for sponsor participants would not be needed if using this feature.

Steps

  1. Visit your campaign’s Dashboard.

  2. Select Settings from the left hand menu, then select Registration.

  3. Visit the Discount Code tab and select Add Code.

  4. A pop-up will appear to help generate your code.

    1. Enter a code name. This is what participants will enter at checkout to apply their discount.

    2. Indicate if the discount code is unlimited or limited to a certain number of uses.

    3. Indicate the discount type, if percentage off or a flat amount.

    4. Indicate the amount of the discount.

  5. Click Save. The discount code will immediately become active, but you can adjust the toggle to disable it at any time.

Note: If using discount codes on an In-Person Event or P2P In-Person Event where multi-participant registration is enabled, be aware that discount codes will affect the entire order. If you have applied a usage limit to a discount code, the usage limit applies per order, not per ticket. To ensure you are discounting the price of a single ticket, use the flat amount discount of your ticket price rather than the percentage off, which would affect any other tickets added to a participant’s cart.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I track how discount codes are being used?

When viewing your discount codes in your Registration settings, you will see a tally of how many discount codes have been used. You can also download your Participants report, which includes a column noting if a discount code was used at registration. When viewing a participant’s profile or their order on your campaign, you will also see if a discount code was used.

Can I edit a discount code after I have shared it?

Yes, but any changes only affect new uses of the code moving forward. If you choose to change the name of your discount code, the code name you previously shared with participants will no longer work.

Is the discount code the same thing as an invite code?

No. Invite codes are for attendees who receive free, reserved tickets as part of sponsoring the event. The option to enter an invite code will appear at the beginning of registration if you have enabled the Sponsors feature with sponsorship packages that have tickets included. Discount codes can be entered at checkout.
